How We Source & Prepare Every Bouquet

When you order a bouquet, you’re not just choosing colors or styles — you’re choosing how long the blooms will last. At Oscar Blooms, we place a strong focus on flower freshness, and here’s how that starts from sourcing and carries through to delivery.

Where the Flowers Come From

At Oscar Blooms, we choose flowers not just for beauty — but for how well they hold up in Singapore’s heat and humidity.

  • 🌷 Tulips (from Holland) - Long-stemmed, vibrant tulips are a staple in our Tulip & Rose Classic bouquet — fresh, structured, and climate-resilient.

  • 🌹 Roses (from Kenya) - Large-headed roses with strong stems, like in Warm Wishes, are selected for their durability and elegance.

  • 💐 Carnations, Chrysanthemums, Gerberas - These flowers appear in vibrant, long-lasting arrangements like Bright Day Blooms — naturally resilient in humid climates.

  • 🌼 Lisianthus (Eustoma) - While delicate, we use only the freshest lisianthus in designs like Graceful Beauty, ensuring good hydration and short prep-to-delivery timing.

Timing the Harvest & Delivery Right

Freshness isn’t just about source — it’s also about when the flower is cut and how quickly it reaches the customer.

  • We aim to use blooms at their optimal stage — not too tight, not too open

  • Flowers are delivered just before arrangement, not kept in storage

  • Orders are assembled the day before or on the day of delivery/pickup

This gives your bouquet the best possible lifespan once it leaves our hands.

Proper Storage & Handling

Even the best flowers can wilt early if not handled right.

  • We use hydration wraps or water tubes where needed during prep

  • Flowers are kept in cool, shaded areas — never exposed to direct heat or sunlight

This helps slow water loss and preserve bloom structure before delivery.

Designed for Singapore’s Climate

Singapore’s heat and humidity are real challenges — so we select flowers and materials that can handle the environment better.

🌹 Roses — From Kenya

  • Long, strong stems

  • Large, well-formed heads

  • Bred for durability and long vase life — ideal for Singapore’s warmth

🌷 Tulips — From Holland (Only)

  • Known for consistency in bloom quality

  • Last longer than lower-grade alternatives

  • Handle transit and handling better in tropical conditions

🌼 Other Flowers We Use Based on Climate Suitability:

  • Gerberas (Malaysia/China) — sturdy and heat-resistant

  • Carnations (China/Kenya) — retain moisture well, long-lasting

  • Chrysanthemums (Malaysia/China) — highly durable, petal-holding

  • Lisianthus (Eustoma) (China/Kenya) — delicate but selected carefully based on weather patterns

We also avoid fragile flowers (like anemones or garden roses) unless specially requested — because lasting impact matters more than rare varieties that wilt fast.

And yes, our wrapping matters too: kraft paper holds up better than glossy or layered wraps in humidity, keeping the bouquet structure intact during delivery.

Flower Care Guide: Keeping Your Blooms Fresh at Home

To get the most out of your Oscar Blooms bouquet, follow these care tips:

  1. Unwrap Gently

Remove the kraft paper and rope carefully. Trim off any water tubes if included.

  2. Trim the Stems

Cut 1–2 cm off each stem at a 45° angle with clean scissors or a knife.

  3. Use a Clean Vase

Fill with fresh, cool water — make sure no leaves sit below the waterline.

  4. Keep in a Cool Spot

Place the vase away from direct sunlight, heat, or air-conditioner vents.

  5. Change Water Daily

Refresh the water every 24 hours and trim stems slightly to prevent blockage.

  6. Remove Wilting Stems Promptly

This helps the rest of the bouquet stay fresh longer.

  7. Tulip-Specific Tip

Tulips continue to grow in the vase — re-trim every 2 days to control shape and droop.

Final Thought

Freshness isn’t something we guarantee with a number — because it depends on how the bouquet is cared for once it leaves us.

But what we do promise is that every Oscar Blooms bouquet is:

  • Thoughtfully sourced

  • Carefully prepared

  • Delivered in its best condition possible

From flower selection to delivery timing — and right down to the wrapping — we do everything we can to help your bouquet stay beautiful for as long as it can.

FAQ

Q: How long will my bouquet last?

A: The freshness of your bouquet depends on the flower type, how it’s handled after delivery, and the environment it's kept in. With proper care (daily water changes and stem trimming), many of our flowers can stay fresh for several days. Tulips and roses, for example, are generally enjoyed for 2 to 5 days, but may last longer in cooler settings.

Q: Can I store my bouquet in the fridge?

A: A regular household fridge is not ideal. Instead, keep the bouquet in a cool, shaded space indoors — away from direct heat and drafts.

Q: Why are some flowers more expensive?

A: We use imported blooms like Holland tulips and Kenya roses, which are grown for quality and durability — not just cost. The price reflects freshness, origin, and handling.

Q: I see water tubes on some stems — should I remove them?

A: Yes. After unwrapping the bouquet, remove water tubes and place the stems in a vase with clean water. They're just for transport hydration.

Q: Do you include flower food?

A: Not at this time — but daily water changes and stem trims are more than enough to keep your bouquet fresh naturally.
